keep your advice in mind if i run into that kind of crashes in the

Experienced again today, but with the difference that Firefox was not
running. I had VLC play a movie in 200% resolution, and switched back to
an open window in Chrome web-browser. The problem seems to be triggered
solely by VLC. The only console messages I can make out is that the
nouveau releases
Just crashed again, however, this time, I'd just quite firefox, but I
had VLC playing a video in the background, and i switched to an open
vinagre window, connected to a remote VNC system.
Same three lines in the system log:

Lucid system running with the latest updates.
Gfx card is a newer nvidia, running the nouveau driver with no desktop
effects enabled.
I've twice experienced this, with the screen briefly blanking out to a
black tty, outputting
Status update:
Over the past week, I've experienced a hard freeze once more. Active
apps were Firefox, System Monitor, Deluge torrent, and the gnome-
screensaver.
The freeze was triggered just after the gnome-screensaver kicked in, and
i tried wakign the computer from the screensaver again with a

I'm using Lucid Lynx final release, fresh installed, on this system
(Samsung laptop R580, Intel Core i...@2,13 Ghz, 4 G RAM, nvidia 330M).
System has been in use for a few days with this install
Despite the bug being closed, i hope I can bring some new light on this.
I've obtained a new display today; Samsung SyncMaster P2450 - 1920x1080.
It replaces an older 1920x1200 display.
The new display has native HDMI, the older only had DVI-D, and i used it
with an HDMI-to-DVI adapter to make it
