I'm using a Thinkpad X200T with Manjaro and observe the problem
described here. It doesn't necessarily happen after the first
suspend/resume cycle but after some of them. The solution proposed in
#19 didn't work for me though. I got two devices displayed corresponding
to ttyS0 and ttyS1. Running in

Public bug reported:
I was running Xubuntu 12.04 on a Thinkpad X40 which has an Intel 855GM
graphics chip. On 12.04 suspend worked flawlessly. Yesterday I upgraded
to 14.04 and this broke suspend. The problem is like this: I close the
lid, the laptop goes to sleep. After some time I open the lid,
I have a similar problem with a Logitech G400 mouse: it reproducibly
doesn't work directly after the boot, reconnecting always solves the
problem. The problem started to appear after the update from (Xubuntu)
Precise to Quantal.

I want to emphasize that this bug is critical and seems to appear quite
common in the past few days. About five users in the German
ubuntuusers.de forums have reported this bug already and beside of the
rescue mode there seems to be no workaround.

I'm experiencing a similar bug: After the update of the 12. December X
failed to start, I got a black screen and the keyboard didn't respond. I
removed the xorg.conf file (thus changing from the fglrx to the radeon
driver) and this resulted in following behavior: still a black screen

If you need a workaround until the fix (?), this one has been pointed
out on the forums:
synclient TapButton2=2; synclient TapButton3=3;
However, those commands have to be run at each session's start (you can
add them in Preferences → "Startup Applications").

+1 by the way, the RC is not too far away. All the more that it seems to
be easily fixable…
By the way, there is a topic on the forums about it:
