#100 - I experienced the same issue, but running nvidia driver.
For me downgrading libqtwebkit4 works best:
wget

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/112036044/libqtwebkit4_2.2.1-4ubuntu1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i libqtwebkit
I have crackling sound on Thinkpad W520 - Conexant 20672 codec +
internal speakers.

skype crashed with SIGSEG
"LD" workaround is not the root cause for a crackling sound.
I am using libqtwebkit4 libqtwebkit4:i386 from 12.10 on 13.04 to make skype
usuable and have also crackling sound.
I remember that crackling started since upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04 alpha.
