I did a couple of tests with the classic desktop, and there was no freeze.
Tried the same thing with unity and had a freeze again.
I will try with the kernel to see if the bug still occurs.

Ok I kept on testing for the bug, and it still occurs, though at a much
lower rate.
I'd say it happens once out of five monitor sleep cycles, whereas before
it happened every time.
If I can do anymore to help, I'd be happy to.

I made the downgrade with the packages (libdrm-intel1, libdrm2 and
libkms1) you suggested and it seems to have fixed the problem.
I tested it a couple of times now and the problem did not occur again.

The issue started about 4-5 days ago.
I have added the dpkg.log as requested.
When I tested with the classic desktop, I had no effects enabled.
I was also able to do some more tests, it seems that this issue is
related to turning the screen off when there is no activity (via the
