the same happens with the 32bit version of ubuntu 10.04 installed on the system. Touchpad is _unusable_ and renders mouse unusable as well unless disabled by running # modprobe -r psaux please help. This sucks. -- alps touchpad clicks erratic, deteriorating

Okay, found a mouse and the behaviour is the same More information on that one: It is only button1 that is affected and it is the same with the touchpad or a mouse. A usb mouse plugged in will work at first, but then lose the use of the left (Button1) mouse button, as verified using xev | grep

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg clicking via tap or hardware-button only works occasionally, often the mouse will hang in a pressed-state. Loading module synaptics_i2c got rid of this behaviour temporarily, but now the issue is back, even though synaptics_i2c is still loaded.
