Ok just experienced the issue again but on 3.2.0-23 kernel. So it isn't
a kernel issue (for me). Though it definitely seems to happen less
often with the older kernel.

FYI I am not on nouveau (or Nvidia). I have an ATI FireGL 5250 and use
radeon.
And for me the system isn't completely frozen, I can CTRL-ALT-F1 over
and see the logs there. Killing the session restarts it and sometimes
works.

I'm having a similar bug with the radeon driver. Randomly (though often
when watching youtube) the screen would just stop updating. I could
move the mouse cursor around and I think it was accepting keyboard input
but nothing on the screen updated. I could ctrl-alt-f1 over and kill
the x session
Thinkpad T60p here, and for me every time it seems to be this error:
[drm:atom_execute_table_locked] *ERROR* atombios stuck executing E93E
(len 86, WS 4, PS 0) @ 0xE971
I have not (yet) seen the other errors Christian has.

Error shown on screen after resume with radeon card
I can confirm what Matthias said about the radeon.modeset=0 kernel
argument. Rebooted with that and it now seems to resume properly.
