Solution:
Open Unity-plugin in CCSM.
Switch from no blur to active blur: the dash is clear - no broken graphics.
Move color from transparent up to 50 percent: all symbols in dash and launcher
appear.

I've just received a kernel update and graphics look a bit better.
But as one can see in the unity dash there is the login item upside down in the
background.
When I close the dash it is of course not there.
btw. the file size of compiz core.pb are the same in user and guest

It just happened again, out of a sudden the screen is black.
The source menu of the monitor greys out the hdmi entry, then I unplug and
replug the keyboard cable, the hdmi entry is available again. IIRC when it
occurs then the mouse was moved a bit.

Due to bug 919398 wondering if they're related. The graphics corruption was
always colourful or rather it displayed the broken user background image.
Recently it's black instead, same as the window underneath, it doesn't display
a broken user background image.

scrolling up and down is normal as is should be
but that isn't the case here as mentioned in my description.
Since recent updates it seems solved, I'm still monitoring though and may mark
it as fixed the next days.

Total freeze 18:59 after working with image files, installing and
removing packages. Screen went black, came back with Nautilus window
still open, all backgrounds and launcher visible. No mouse or any key
function possible.

As for the second crash forgot to mention I let the screen blink only two or
three times and survived with alt+sysrq+k. After login everything was normal
again. As for today I've tried to trigger the behaviour open lots of apps fast,
clicked on launcher multiple times and move launchers back
