The problem persists in 14.04. The solution in comment #96 still does
not resolve the issue for me.
I can confirm Rahul's observation in #116. Adjusting the brightness
before the kernel loads works. Adjusting after that freezes the system.

I noticed the bios-outdated tag, so I've updated the BIOS on my laptop
to the latest one offered by Lenovo, which is 2.57. I re-tested with
2014-Mar-13 and experienced the exact same results.
The daily builds for the 16th and 17th won't boot on my laptop.

I've just attached the latest debugging logs from the live environment of
2014-Mar-13
I ran through the same testing steps as last time with very similar results
The only difference was that after undocking, I was not able to get to a
virtual terminal, I suspect the CPU was bound again.

Christopher, thank you for responding. I'm going to have to find time to
do all that testing again. This isn't a good week for that, as I'm
swamped at the office. Honestly, if you had mentioned the need for
xdiagnose in your first request for debugging information, I would have
only had to have

I've tested with the latest Ubuntu and Xubuntu nightly live USB images.
This is the first I had heard of those, and I'm very glad they are now
available, specifically for cases like this. Here are my results.
