I confirm. On Ubuntu 12.04.2 (fully updated) on ThinkPad T430 this issue
is present when touchpad is disabled. Enabling it by :
dconf write /org/gnome/settings-daemon/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad-
enabled true
solves the problem.
