The problem seems to have stopped. The most probable cause was that I
was (rather bravely) running BOINC computations on my GPU!! Since I
stopped doing this, my graphic display is much more stable. No more
crashing at every thunderbird's newmail

Closing/opening the lid of my dell laptop to suspend/resume an Ubuntu
session *usually* works.
However, rather often, the resuming hangs at some point in the process.
Often, I get to see my mouse appearing (it even changes to a cursor when
moved to an area of the screen where
I reported similar crashes, with Xorg logs, under the "thunderbird
packgage, in this duplicate bug: #901230
Also, note in the above attachments, only the first one "Xorg log of the
latest crash" were collected when the system had actually crashed, the
rest was collected after reboot, so probably n

Every now and then, upon clicking on "new mail" in thunderbird, the X
display freezes in Ubuntu. Did it on previous releases and also
following the latest update.
I include the Xorg.0.log of the latest crash, in the hope that it will
help.
