After trying to no avail to fix this critical issue for 3 versions I had to
abandon Ubuntu.
I fresh installed the latest LMDE AND the problem disappeared.

Has anyone found a solution?
unfortunately post #29 is not a solution, not because is not trusted, but
because no explanation is given on what was patched.
Also the patched packages and NVIDIA drivers provided in post #29 used are
getting outdated.
@ Daniel P: Sorry but I think there is some confusion.

It has been already delivered via maverick-proposed. And I
I am not to familiar with Launchpad so I'll just ask it here:
Does anybody know how to get this people involved?
I think they would be able to help up alot with this bug

Could you please explain or tell what was patched in the

I dont think this is an issue with the Nvidia drivers.
This is an issuse with either Xorg or QT

QT ? why would it be QT ?
Well, most of my gtk apps run well without issues at all. Whereas NONE
of my installed QT apps work.
Any body else having THIS issue with gtk apps, besides Laurent?
Also, the closed source nVidia drivers always seem more culpable (and
us for using them).

@Jonathan Thomas
There is definitely something going on with Xorg. So I am marking Xorg
again as an affected package.
There is a thread in ArchLinux that seems to indicate that this is a bug
in Xorg 1.9 (but it's still unconfirmed)
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=838311#p838311
Workarrounds for the meantime:
Dual monitors: Use twinview. There is no need to have xinerama enabled if you
just have two monitors using twinview.
Besides with twinview you get hardware accelerated graphics.
Three monitors: Have two of them with twinview and one separate screen.
All of them

Jonathan, I don't think this is an issue with the Nvidia Drivers. Their
current, their beta and their five prior versions of the Nvidia Drivers
work well and without this issue on 10.04, 9.10 and 9.04
Also, according to the changelog of the Xinerama packages nothing
changed between 10.04 and

@Daniel, on the video it was between screen two and three, but it also
happens to me between the first and the second.
I can also move the mouse vertically, but everything else is dead not
even Ctrl-Alt-Backspace works.
Hopefully this bug can gather enough people for some expert to look into

I was having all the symtoms in this bug and they may have been corrected by

I should correct my self:
When I said it crashed I really meant it became unresponsive, CPU usage by xorg
became extremely high, and eventually had to be killed to regain control of the
I had a crash again this morning. I can't tell what I did other than simply
moving the mouse from one screen to another.
I could not even kill xorg with ctrl-alt-back. I had to login remotely from
another computer and kill xorg via the console.

Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled
Everything was going well after the xorg-server - 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.2

Exact same behavior, mouse jumps back and forth between screens, xorg
CPU usage skyrockets and the only way is to
Can someone clarify me if the newly realesed xorg-server at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/xorg-server/2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.1
contains Mackenzie's patch?
If not, can someone tell me how to install Mackenzie's version
(2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.1~maco1) overinding the above metioned release?

Unfortunately it auto updated to the one on the main repos.
How can I force it to install yours?

The TEMP workaround also requires the 'screens' to be in order.
INCORRECT:
Section ServerLayout
Identifier Layout0
Screen 2 Screen2 0 0
Screen 1 Screen1 RightOf Screen2
Screen 0 Screen0 RightOf Screen1
InputDeviceKeyboard0 CoreKeyboard
Same bug here.
I have 3 Monitors on an Nvidia NVS 450 video card. The three worked perfect in
9.10 using Xinerama.
Just upgraded to 10.04 and mouse pointer gets stuck (flickering) between
monitors becoming unusable.
Xorg CPU usage skyrockets and I have to kill it.

Seems to be an issue with the leftOf directive in xorg.conf and
Xinerama
A temp workaround is to use only RightOf directives
I just redid my xorg.conf with only RightOf directives, re-arranged my
monitors physically to match that of the new xorg.conf and it is
working fine
