All cut/paste methods described in the /usr/share/doc/xterm/xterm.faq.gz fail
to work.
Not only the simple one - mouse select, middle button press in same xterm
window, but
every other 'suggestion' in the faq fails to result in a copy/paste operation
with xterms.

bringing up the xterm menu's with ctrl left, middle, right mouse button
all bring up the main Menu
it seems there is no way to access VT options or VT fonts menu

it is not the same, this have to do with drag and hold on window borders

I did a downgrade to compiz-core_0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu8_amd64.deb
It still happens, (and breaks the compiz desktop) i did a upgrade again and my
desktop effect are back ;-)
Maybe Omer Akram is right and not a compiz problem but Lightdm?

Addition:
I did not do anything with any setting, just updated Ubuntu 12.04 and after
that the locked drag activated.
AFTER that i was looking in mouse settings, but i can't change this setting
there. So i installed Gpointing Device Settings.
There i was enable to set this setting OFF and this
Ps. I have enabled mouse clicks with touchpad
But i don' t want locked drags enabled.

I have the same artifacts, I have a acer timeline 4810 with a ati 4310 graphic

So not only Nvidia has this problem i guess.
First started when the compiz update was installed. (a week ago i think it was)

I have a Acer timeline 4810tzg-413g32mn. This laptop has a Intel and ATI GPU
card.
I have a dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.04. On Windows 7 the laptop runs
cool and the fan runs about 10% of the time. The battery time is 5 hours or so.
On Ubuntu the Laptop is hotter and the fan runs all
