It looks more like some font problem. I had same issue on my netbook,
but i can't reproduce it now, may be because of installed windows fonts
(dependency for wine)

Xorg crush on keyboard event. Mos of the time it is easy to reproduce:
1. boot ubuntu karmic and login
2. open some think. for example gedit and tipe some thing random ( it think
it's depends some how on key enter)

After KMS was enabled by default my display setup was lost. With xrandr
i found what instead of HDMI-1 and HDMI-2 i have DVI1 and DVI2.
Each time i switch between kms and nonkms boot it switch the names.
so to setup my display
I have same symptoms on intel DG45ID (g45)... so probably the same bug.
It is easy to reproduce: start video in full screen, in about 80
minutes xorg will crash.
