Hi,
I have no direct rendering unless using sudo.
sol@CALC1:~$ export LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose; glxinfo | grep direct
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so
libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so failed
(/usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so: cannot open shared
Same thing with nvidia driver version 304.
It looks like quite similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/+bug/370249
but without Vmware.

I found something. It seems related to LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
As a simple user, If I type
declare -x LD_LIBRARY_PATH=
after that direct rendering is working fine
Any idea ?

Ok this bug seems invalid. There was some other libGL.so libs in my
LD_LIBRARY_PATH due to installation of a software (Cast3M).

After investigation, this bug is more related to the binutils-gold package (I
am using ubuntu lucid).
ld: internal error in output_symtab_index, at ../../gold/object.h:1086
If I remove the binutils-gold package. fglrx builds successfully.
