The problem is that cc points to clang and CC is set to clang. To be
able to install nvidia-current, the environment must be preset to
CC=gcc.

Starting on Ubuntu 12.10, random freezes/hangs happen when using X.
Mouse and keyboard stop working for some seconds, then resume working.
System does not crash. X log reports problems with nvidia driver.
Problem is not reproducible.
