Thinkpad X230 and external display. Default resolution external display
2560x1440. After screenlock the external display has a different
resolution. Sometimes 1920x1080 or 1280x720. Only unpluggin
I swapped my environment (gnome-fallback, chromium-browser, evolution,
libreoffice, gnome-terminal) for a vanilla env of ctwm, xterm and
firefox. After 4 days the memory usage stayed at 0.6%. Confirm that it
is not a bug in xorg but in one of the other apps, as suggested by
Daniel. So I need to che

Well, it's not libreoffice nor evolution mail client. And I also tried
Unity with X instead of fallback, no better, so it doesn't look like

memory usage has gone from under 1% to 8%. Libreoffice has stayed
unchanged at 459376K total (with 2 docs open). metacity has grown but
not conclusively. So I'll give it another week

I noticed that the compositor backend renderer was set to OpenGL3.1.
Setting is to OpenGL2 seems to solve the issue for now. Will test some

outputs to digital ones (as seen in xrand.log), the resolution reported
by xdpyinfo is wrong -- negative. Expected resolution is somewhere

(14.04) Xenial HWE kernel (4.4.0-47.68~14.04.1) and this fixes the bug.

While keeping the Xenial HWE stack on Ubuntu Trusty (14.04), I tried
various installed HWE kernels.
It seems it really broke with the Wily kernel (4.2.0.42.34). The Vivid
kernel (3.19.0.74.56) has survived multiple resume cycles, while Wily

Distorted colours after suspend
This is just a display problem - a snapshot is correct, so it really
looks like a radeon driver problem, instead of an xorg problem.
The wrong colors are always different, so every cycle produces a
different result. For a photo as background it almost looks like modern
art ;-)

When waking up the system from a suspend-resume cycle, the display most times
shows distorted colours.
As a workaround one can switch to the linux console (VT) and back to fix the

I found a workaround by installing the libinput driver. I did the
following:
Remove the synaptics driver:
sudo aptitude purge xsever-xorg-input-synaptics
Make sure the configuration file is gone
sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf
Install the libinput driver and tools
sudo aptit
Thanks Aaron. Switch AccelMethod into uxa mode works for me too.
Tested on Thinkpad T520 with Intel SandyBridge Mobile
