Public bug reported:
Shortly after upgrading to precise, I noticed that xorg hung at
apparently random times at least once a day, and no input would work
except the power button, which prompted the computer to reboot. For the
past week or so, something else has been happening: the screen freezes

Public bug reported:
For about a week now, my screen has been freezing several times a day
and has stopped taking keyboard or mouse input, forcing me to restart my
system by hitting the power button. Normally when I hard reboot I have
to hold the power button for several seconds, but in this case

Strangely, I had not enabled the fglrx proprietary driver when this
happened (even though for some reason the reported system information
says it was installed). I ran jockey after the fact, finding both fglrx
and fglrx-updates grayed out and not activated, and I installed the non-
updated version
Public bug reported:
3 days ago after the most recent kernel update, my computer wouldn't
start and got stuck on the screen reporting that it couldn't detect the

somehow I am no longer getting that error, but now whenever I su

As far as I can tell, this always happens when the monitor powers off
after 1/2 hour of inactivity. If I leave the screensaver on indefinitely
without having the monitor power off, it never seems to happen.
By the way, why is this tagged "hardy"? I have only had this problem
under Lucid.

I'm having the same problem. I'm given the option to start in low-
graphics mode or to boot to a console, etc., but everything I choose
just gives me a black screen, so I simply can't log into my computer
now. Apparently many people are experiencing the same problem (see

I thought I submitted a follow-up to this several weeks ago but for some
reason I'm not seeing it now. In response to your questions, at the time
I submitted this bug I had no customizations to xorg.conf. I'm attaching
