I've upgraded my Dell Precision now to 10.4. I don't experience the
weird graphic problems anymore. However, I haven't been able to test it
with a second monitor yet.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 from scratch on a Dell Precision M6500 and
everything went well, except that I've noticed a couple of display
problems.
1) Some graphics are corrupted, notably the profile pictures under Skype
(see attached screenshot), and

I haven't noticed this behavior for a while now, looks like it's fixed.
