I was finally able to give an old laptop the 1024 x 768 resolution I knew the LCD could do (from the 800 x 600 + large gray border around it it did do because Ubuntu 9.10 did a monitor not detected on me) by adding an xorg.conf text file in /etc/X11 with just the following few lines only: Section
