I tried the patch after being told that it might make it possible for me
to upgrade to Ubuntu v10. I'm still unable to upgrade to Ubuntu v10:
please excuse me, Bruce, but do you mean for me to install that package?

Two crucial items of information about the bug:
1. Before the crash occurred, the X40 laptop was attached to the docking
station, its monitor and the external monitor were both on, and the
desktop spread across them both. The following then happened:
- The laptop was removed from the docking
