btw, i think you are mixing up two issues:
- the latencytop kernel trace is completely unrelated to the issue (it is
related to drm, not to the tracing subsystem)
- the reported bug is not related to 2.6.39-rc1 (it also happens with the
ubuntu-stock kernel)

similar issue here: gitk and git gui crash x after upgrading to natty
- nouveau with dual screen
- cannot test the nvidia driver (booting x causes a hard freeze)
- on maverick, the nvidia driver (with twinview) worked fine

same issue here: nvidia module builds fine, but isn't loaded at startup,
so gdm cannot be started.
i added nvidia to /etc/modules in order to load the nvidia module at

it worries me, that this bug is tagged as `invalid', since it `breaks'

Nvidia binary driver won't build with 2.6.31-rt kernel

need to apply the attached patch. maybe it is worth, including it into
the package.

the version of nvidia-180-kernel-source included in jaunty does not
build against 2.6.30 kernel. a fix has been included in karmic
(180.44-0ubuntu2), but it the updated package hasn't been added to the
jaunty repositories ... it would be nice, if that could be done ...
