I bought a new computer with an nvidia card, so i do not have the
hardware anymore to test it. But i'm quite sure that this serious bug

Same here on Intel 82G33/G31 on a dual screen setup (2 x 1440x900). Both
compiz and kwin are likely not able to display larger resolutions than
2048x2048 with OpenGL. -> Crash -> Really annoying. A workaround to have
some form of compositing enabled (transparency in widgets etc) is to use
metacity
