The latest Nvidia proprietary driver update in Ubuntu 16.04 (automated
updates) caused my left mouse button to fail after a while. I tried
several mice and USB ports, all the same. Login out and in a gain is a
remedy. Restart not necessary. It feels as this is a lightdm bug.

It started with the 16.04 upgrade. I noticed that the mouse cursor works
a few seconds after login but after my Psensor (temperature display)
started up, the mouse cursor jumps. Wonder what library Psensor is
using.

Happens right after boot every time. Have to end the process. No USB

I just tried with the kernel from your PPA.
With KMS enabled, the system freezes immediately and blanks the screen before
even writing anything to a logfile.
If KMS is disabled via 'i915.modeset=0', the system boots

On my two laptops everything works now normal again, probably due to one
of the last kernel updates.

I have the same problem on two laptops both having intel chipset graphics. I
can get a running

result as setting i915.modeset=0).
If I use kdm as the login manager I also get a low resolution warning.

I've got to say that on my system (see bug description) the bug got
solved with the installation of Kernel 2.26.31-rc3 (and xorg-edgers
ppa). At least I could boot to XFCE without having the VGA connector
attached and the correct/native display resolution is selected
automatically. I hope it stays
