This bug still exists in Karmic as well. TwinView works just fine when using wacomcpl to adjust the stylus to match the screen. However, with Separate X Screens there is no way to make it work.
I agree that saying "Just use TwinView" is not a valid solution. I've used TwinView for a while, and I am overall unhappy with it.
