I just had the same kind of problem again, in OOo Writer, when I was
scrolling down a document. It had worked fine all day long, but X hang
for about 10 seconds. The following message was in the logs and apart
from this it all seems to work fine again:
kernel: [39955.836585] NVRM: Xid (0001:00):
Sorry, forgot to attach Xorg.0.log in case it's of any help; here it is.

openoffice crash at startup (related to X)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/429011
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X,
which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu.
It crashed again, this time while opening a .pdf document, though (this
has never happened before). Same kind of problems, seems definately
related to X now.
Attached is Xorg.log (the old one - from before the crash)
The following was in kern.log just before it crashed:
kernel: [17720.724092]
Unfortunately I don't know how to reproduce the crash. It seems to
happen at random occasions when opening OOo instead of each time (today
I managed to open OOo at least ten times and it all went fine), but I'll
be sure to add this file the next time it happens.
