unfortunately using the 'elan touchpad patch' didn't work because probably
MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 is not an elan device.
with and without patch, no events are ever recorded by pressing or swiping the
surface of the TouchPad

I have restricted the bad behavior to XChat-gnome at this point. At
least that's the most visible program where this issue becomes apparent.
LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird and Nautilus seem to respect the
touch-to-click disabled in the Unity config panel.

I was able to fix the problem with a workaround:
- I know from the TV specifications (and from Lucid settings) that the maximum
resolution of one of my Panasonic TV is 1360x756
- I search for the 1360x768 modeline:

- I obtain a modeline, wich I add to the TV (VGA1) with xrandr:

Looking at the xorg.log file I can see that the problem is still there
after the upgrade to Natty.
I've run the apport-collect from Natty and sent the report.

I can redproduce this error with ubuntu 11.04 and 10.10.
On ubuntu I installed as second desktop KDE 4 and the result was screen
corruption on KDE and I couldn't load Unity anymore. I saw only the desktop
background, but never menus etc.

Also makes a massive difference for me. I haven't seen any corruption.
Tested the usual triggers: gnome-terminal scrolling / curses, notify-osd

Don't know if this can help, but I've noticed something in the xrandr
output..
