removing ~/.config/monitors.xml worked for me too.
Question is, what is it there for? What are the consequences of removing it?

How would I specify the post-release fglrx from apt-get install ?
I also have the problem that I can install the older (pre-release I guess)
driver, but the post-release fails.

Yes, but I think I agree with Nicolas in saying that would shouldn't
lessen the status of this bug, since many people can't live with the
free driver due to power management concerns.
A Bug is a bug, and as bugs go, this is still a whopper,
until it is fixed.
Lets hope soon.

No, Not fixed yet. However, does the fact that the free driver works
in Lucid provide hope that the fglrx driver (the next version
available for lucid) will also be improved ?

Thank you van,
I use currently the open source radeon driver 2D (on my HD 3470 mobility) to
escape the unminimize problem. It would be a shame for me to install the
backclear patch and still be stuck using the 2D version because of a memory
leak.
That paraview affects the memory leak like that is
graphics driver ?
So, it should be possible to achieve fast (normal) unminimizing AND no
memory leak. And that is what vancouverite has achieved?

Just to clarify what you mean;
First you say you had memory leaks with no-back-fill.
then switched to backclear, and still had memory leaks.
Then switched to the default that ships with Karmic koala -> still memory
leaks
So what did you do differently to now have no memory leak?
Yes, that was also my understanding of 'incomplete'. And I asked precisely
because I was afraid that its status of 'incomplete' would see it being left
out by Ubuntu developers.
Could the powers that be reconsider the status of this bug?, as I believe
there is plenty of information to list it as ei
Incomplete ?
What else is needed for this bug to be confirmed? I don't understand.
when a bug is marked as 'Incomplete' it typically doesn't get worked on, I
believe.
Please explain.

Hi all,
I have a couple questions before I jump into this.
@Felix
You mentioned this is a patch against the Xorg version 1.6.3 included in
Karmic.
Does that mean I should not use it in Jaunty with Xorg 1.6.0 ?
Also, a subscriber to this bug, Michel, mentioned above that he was able to

As far as I can tell, I wouldn't be happy if this 'patch' was considered the

I thought i've read reports that with the nobackfill patch, while the delay
is gone, a huge memory leak issue replaces it.
Or have I understood the previous posts incorrectly.

@Dag Stenstad
Perhaps I have misunderstood previous posts regarding this issue,
But I thought the xserver-no-backfill was the workaround/fix to remove the 3

And you say you "upgraded to Xorg from xserver-no-backfill".
