I think this bug is not solved on 12.04 LTS. If it's a kernel bug, the
patch should be backported to the latest official 12.04 kernel and
delivered via normal software update.
Some people suggested for example to update to kernel v. 3.3.6 available
here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~ke

Using a Westinghouse L1928NV since dapper. Native resolution has not
been recognized since intrepid( xfce mid-session, IceWM mid-session,
gnome on reboot). The feisty LiveCD has no trouble detecting the native
1280x1040. the EDID tools recognize this resolution but don't trust it.
