Just download the packages for your architecture (386 or amd64) + the
sources + the all.deb . Put them in a directory. Open a terminal, go to
the directory and type "sudo dpkg -i *.deb"

Here are my five cents:
On an IBM Thinkpad R51 - 2887 with:
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics
Device (rev 02)
and kernel 2.6.32-21 + xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3Ubuntu1
everything works perfectly, including Compiz. No X crahes at all. So, I
pinned

After update to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.1-3Ubuntu3 the display is
garbled after resume from suspend/hibernate.
Reverted to version 2:2.9.1-3Ubuntu1 and everything works fine again.
