if I drive my monitor at 4K the text is too small for my eyes so I tend
to run it at slightly lower 16X9 resolutions like 2560X1440. If I do
that the fonts are fuzzy. If I run at full 4K and scale it 200% the
fonts are crisp and great looking but of course the screen space is

After connecting my laptop to the external monitor I set up different
resolutions for the external and internal screens and their layout.
After I log out or reboot and then connect it doesn't remember those
settings and I have to do it all over again.

When I plug in an external monitor into my laptop and run the catalyst
control center all changes require a reboot. Windows is able to cope
with it fine and so are laptops with nvidia cards.

The control center must be run as root. This should not be required for
simple resolution changes or enabling or disabling an external monitor.

When I enable the single desktop multiple monitor in the catalyst
control center I can move the mouse from one screen to another but I am
unable to drag a window from one screen to another.
Also I am unable to open up firefox on both monitors because firefox
complains that

The xorg.conf file was created by the aticonfig --init command. The
catalyst application is unable to set a virtual resolution and keeps
hanging up. Overall the the functionality of the application is
somewhere around 70% working on this machine.

When I run the command avivotool regs all regdump_broke.txt I get a
core dump and the file contains nothing.

Laptop Asus K42jr-a1 using an ATI Radeon HD 5470 card. I have an

When running windows there are no problems.
