The problem is in nouveau (experimental) driver.
Install Ubuntu from alternate CD and boot to text mode and uninstall
these packages: nouveau-firmware, xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and install
nvidia-current package.
My old Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 440 works fine.

I try Ubuntu natty Desktop i386. It have the same problem - I can't
boot. Instead login screen I see

I must change bootloader settings on live CD. I remove "quiet splash" and
Ubuntu 9.10 live CD is OK:
