broken, (b) doesn't save any power, (c) IT IS VERY BROKEN.

Graphical hangs on mouse display switch

Sandy Bridge, it is. I really wonder if this specific case is a bridge
issue, since it only occurs with 2 external displays attached and not if
I use the notebook stand alone.
Another issue which only occurs with the 2 external displays is, that
Unity does not render completely after start up
Are you on Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge? Hangcheck issues on those
chipsets are common sadly, and they often lead to graphical issues.
