Closing/opening the lid of my dell laptop to suspend/resume an Ubuntu
session *usually* works.

However, rather often, the resuming hangs at some point in the process.
Often, I get to see my mouse appearing (it even changes to a cursor when
moved to an area of the screen where there should be a text-editor),
nothing else appears: all black.

just in case this has something to do with it, I use xscreensaver.
