install _until_ somebody triages to be a problem in another package.
There are hundreds of software packages that get you the graphical
installer, and we do need to start narrowing it down. Usually we start
with ubiquity and then

I also tried booting the 12.10 beta 2 CD on an older dekstop with a nVidia
9600GT video card, but it gives the same scrambled screen.
Also the live-cd function didn't perform any better.

Looked at the
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Finding_the_Package_Name
site and found out that when encountering problems during installation
of the Desktop CD I should use the ubiquity package.
