I switched to non-Nvidia graphics so I no longer have this problem.
Perhaps someone else who is using Nvidia can reopen this.

Colan Schwartz, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
I don't think this can be a Terminator bug, we aren't doing anything special
when we are maximised. It might be worth checking your terminator preferences
to see what the background setting is - perhaps it's set to be transparent and
that is placing a high burden on your X server?
