Hmm, well the modeline itself doesn't appear to have changed:

The ASUS warning message could also mean something like “outside comfort
zone” (too high FPS or something like that).

Reboot into a 12.04 or 12.10 livecd, collect /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the
output of dmesg, and attach here. If the error message really means
out of range, then perhaps the modeline being used has changed.

Yes, it's a regression. With 12.04 12.10 I had no monitor problem.
