The cause of this error is: eglQueryString (dpy, EGL_EXTENSIONS); returning only: EGL_KHR_surfaceless_context This seems to be a new feature in Mesa 9.x. It no longer works if you start it from a VT where there is no X server and then switch to the X server. Workaround: 1. sleep 5
