Thank you for the suggestion. Indeed the problem seems to be absent in 13.04. So I suppose this one can be closed -- I would have done it myself but don't see how. I echo your points about Xv clearly beating OpenGL in video playback, but at least there is some performance gain over Flash... -- Y
