After updgrade to ubuntu 13.10 the issue seems no longer to be present.
Now nvidia-173 builds OK. So suggest to close this bug. Note that
although nvidia-173 builds, it is not running correct. That is another
story / should be other bug.

Is anybody backporting (or at least THINKING about backporting) all
these wonderful changes for us plebs on 12.04 LTS using the OFFICIAL
linux-generic-lts-raring series, or do we no longer count as real users,
despite LTS promises from Ubuntu?

Just some questions.
Do we need to wait for nvidia? Is it possible to tell how long they may
take?
Got today time to look into the failed build log. To me (programming
experience, but not in linux kernel) it looks like proc_fs.h changed,
create_proc_entry removed. Guess being replaced by
