AMD's open -source team have just released a large set of Radeon DRM
patches which add support for DisplayPort Audio. Thes patches should be
in the upcoming upstream Linux 3.20 kernel.

I'm having this problem too. I'm installing fglrx to see if that fix the
problem, but I woluld preffer to use opensource drivers.

That worked. BTW I'm using trusty kernel and trusty drivers with
radeon.audio=1 kernel option, but that doesn't make opensource driver
work. I can upload information if someone needs it.

Add radeon.audio=1 to GRUB kernel boot options could make DP audio work.
I've also verified with the latest mainline kernel (3.12rc2), this
problem still exist.
