Public bug reported:

I am unable to pass the -v option to an application I want to run in an
xterm window. For example

    $ xterm -e bash -v
    XTerm(271)
    $

This returns the version of xterm when I expected it to open an xterm
window that would run then run the 'bash' with the -v option.

When I compiled the latest version of xterm from http://invisible-
island.net/xterm/ (Version 297), I do not have this issue.

** Affects: xterm (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
