I have installed 3.14.1 kernel as per your direction.

There are changes in the 3.13 kernel that make Radeon HD 7xxx hardware
faster and more stable. Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr currently has the
3.13.0-24.46 kernel. Are you able to test it?
