Public bug reported:

I have a new HP Pavilion Split X2. The system recognizes the existence
of the touchpad, in that I can use it, but it doesnt' give me any
touchpad features (most specifically, I really want to be able to turn
it off while typing so that my palm isn't making me skip all around all
the time.

This is a fresh install of 14.04, fully up to date.

Trying to use synclient in any way gives me:

"Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?"

I've tried installing touchpad-indicator, but it seems to crash on
trying to do anything. I've tried installing Pointing Devices, but it
too seem to not do anything (though it recognizes the "SynapticsTouch
Pad V 1.03U3").

Version: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.7.4-0ubuntu1
Fresh install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

What I expected to happen was that my touchpad would be recognized as a
touchpad--what happened was that it seems to be recognized as a mouse? There
are no touchpad options.

I'll try to send the apport information if I can manage to do it right...
