Hi Christopher-
I was actually still running Ubuntu 12.04. It was last July.
When I did last summer's firmware update for Linux kernel drivers I got a black
screen. It would not roll back to a previous version.

I then tried the 14.04 as a fresh install and only got snow with my
GJT, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could
you please run the following command from a terminal as it will
automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report:
apport-collect -p xorg 1354654
