Public bug reported: Essentially, my graphics are usntable. The display moves up and down rapidly in a flickering-like fashion whenever I turn on my Lenovo IdeaPad N580 or wake it up from sleep mode. The shaking up and down nearly stops after a few hours of running the laptop, only moving up and down once every 1 or 2 seconds, so that I can still use the laptop, but it still hurts my eyes and gives me a headache.
The problem began soon after wiping Windows 8 from the laptop an installing Ubuntu 13.10. Recently, I finally got around to upgrading to 14.04 LTS, but I had to create a boot flash drive because the software updater wasn't working correctly at the time. Anyway, a fresh install of 14.04 LTS fixed the problem for a few days, but it came back again. I don't know if it's from one of the updates released, since it was after updating all of the packages that needed updating, or if it's just a conincidence that it wasn't happening. It's a 64-bit laptop (Intel Sandybridge Mobile Graphics), so I replaced 64-bit Windows 8 with 64-bit Ubuntu. I can't help but wonder if possibly using a fresh 32-bit install would fix this issue, as a very undesired workaround, but I would much prefer a proper update or a link to any drivers or packages that should be installed.
