Dell ships a mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable (DP-mDP) with the display.
The mDP cable is connected to the X250 and the DP cable is connected to the
display.

I have checked this. But by now only with the 27" Dell. (The resolutions
are anyway the same.)
Ubuntu offers resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 px.
The largest working resolution is 1920 x 1200 px.
Both higher resolutions (3840 x 2160 px and 2560 x 1440 px) result in a black
MIME, as a potential WORKAROUND, could you please test the latest
upstream intel driver via https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads and
advise to the results?
