Ubuntu 16.04 freezes on Thinkpad X61 Tablet when touched by the stylus

After installing newer Kernel and X the freezing disappeared and the
stylus is working!

This issue is probably related to the Wacom driver w8001 (see [1] and
[2], thanks [3]).
When I tried `cat /dev/input/mice` in console, system crashed in the
same way as in X, but I got at least some error message (see
attachement).

I have just encountered this same problem. I don't have the stylus but
the system does freeze when I touch the screen.
