I too was having this issue on a Dell XPS 15.
Tried all the nvidia versions available on the normal ubuntu repo's for
20.04 (except nouveau). Moving to the ppa and the 450 driver solved my
issue.

Can confirm, using nvidia-driver-450 seems to resolve the issue. I

I have so far seen that happening on two of my machines, when using gimp
