Booting the laptop resulted in the splash screen. Then some text flashed
very quickly but I couldn't read it. Then, the screen went black. The
back light was on. I went to the TTY recovery mode and tried to fix the
issue.

I tried to fix the issue by deleting my nvidia drivers.
`apt remove --purge nvidia-*`
Still would not boot.

I ended up fixing the issue by going into recovery mode and changing the
following line of `/etc/default/grub`:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor
acpi_osi=linux"

was changed to

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""

I forgot to update the grub. After rebooting the issue was fixed.
