Same problem here, more details: Touchpad works whenever I do not get this in warning in the xorg logfile:
(ww) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad can't grab event device, errno=16 This warning happends randomly, as far as I can see. Even when the touchpad does not work, the touchpad buttons DO work. I will attach my xorg conf and the xorg log asa I get home.
